How to Fake Your Location on iPhone
If you want to tell your iPhone and your apps that you’re in a different location than where you’re actually at, here’s how to fake your location on iPhone.
You can use this with an iOS 11 jailbreak, or you can use the second method to fake your iPhone location without a jailbreak in 2018. Both of these do require a decent amount of setup, but once you are done, you should be able to choose your location at will.
Faking your location allows you to hide the information from apps, attach different locations to photos, get around blackout restrictions in some streaming apps and perhaps to find more matches in Tinder without paying for Tinder Plus or Tinder Gold. We’re seeing many users looking to fake their iPhone location for Pokémon Go to try and get to specific places to catch Pokémon without leaving home.
Spoof Your Location with NordVPN
You can also use this to fake your location on social media and share a post that looks like you are on vacation on a tropical beach, even if you are stuck at home.
If you have a jailbroken iPhone you can fake your location using a variety of Cydia tweaks that allow you to change your location to specific coordinates. If you don’t have a jailbroken iPhone, you can use another method to do this, but it’s a little more complicated and it might be better done with a spare iPhone.
You can jailbreak iOS 9, iOS 10 (h3lix or h3lix for 32 bit) and some versions of iOS 11 (Electra). You cannot use this on the latest version of iOS 11, but if you are on iOS 11.1.x or lower you should be able to jailbreak. Check out the jailbreak subreddit for more information.
Faking Your Location on iPhone
You can find a variety of jailbreak tweaks to change your iPhone location. This will also depend on which version of iOS you are running. The Anywhere! tweak is one that works on iOS 11.
The Anywhere! location faking Cydia app is free to download and use. It is in Chinese, but you can still use it pretty easily.
- Once installed, open the app from your home screen.
- Navigate on the screen to a location you want.
- Tap and a red pin will drop with an address.
- On the next screen tap the blue tab.
- Choose the apps you want to spoof your location in.
- Tap on the upper right corner text where two words are.
- Open the app you want to fake your location in and it should now show your new location.
Users on Reddit report this works with a variety of apps. You can also find other apps that can fake your location. Some other options include akLocationX, Location Faker and LocationHandle.
One challenge you may run into is trying to get around blackouts for sports events. Many of the streaming services now include IP address and other information to block unauthorized access. You may be able to use Unlocator on your router to get around those without a jailbreak by spoofing the location of every device on your home network.
These jailbreak apps make it easy to fake your location on the iPhone or iPad if you jailbreak.
How to Fake Your iPhone Location without Jailbreaking
You should still be able to fake your iPhone location without a jailbreak, even on iOS 11 by using a free tool called BackupBot and the directions below.
- Connect your iPhone to the Mac
- Open iTunes
- Click on the Device icon
- Click on the Manually Backup and Restore section
- Click on Back Up Now (Make sure Encrypt iPhone is NOT checked)
- Wait for the backup to complete.
- Open iBackupBot
- The tool should find your backup and open it.
Once this happens you need to go to one of two locations on your iPhone backup. You are going to edit the Apple Maps plist file. Go to either of these locations and then open the com.Apple.Maps.Plist file.
- System Files – > HomeDomain -> Library -> Preferences
- User App Files -> com.Apple.Maps -> Library -> Preferences
Once the file is open look for the <dict> tag and then put this code right below it.
<key>__internal__PlaceCardLocationSimulation</key>
<true/>
Save and close the file you edited and then close iBackupBot. Don’t unplug the phone from your computer or open iTunes yet.
On your iPhone you need to disable Find My iPhone. Go to Settings -> Tap on your name at the top -> Tap on iCloud -> Tap on Find My iPhone -> Tap to turn off. Enter your password to turn it off.
Now you can open iTunes and choose Restore Backup. Pick the backup you just edited.
Once the restore is complete you can open the Apple Maps app. Move around to a location you want to spoof. Tap on the bottom of the screen to get information about the location. You should now see an option to Simulate Location. Tap on it and you should now be in that location.
Open up other apps on your iPhone and you will now see that as your location inside of social media apps and apps like Pokémon Go.

Baseball Boy is a great time waster game because it only takes a few seconds to play one turn, so you can use it e en when you only have a minute or two to wait in line. This is a timing game. You tap to swing the bat when it is lined up in the center of the arc to get a perfect hit. Each hit earns you points that you can spend towards strength, speed, bounciness and offline earnings. I love that I can keep coming back to this game when I have a few minutes to kill and after a few turns I can increase my stats and go a little further the next time. There's a little strategy to it, but for the most part it's a great little distracting game. | |||||||||||||||

Doesn’t work with Square. Still says invalid location. Have you figured a workaround for Square?

Such clickbait’ish shartposting NOT to include a word about the need of jailbreaking in the topic. Of course you can do this after jailbreaking; there isn’t probably a single thing that you couldn’t do with a JB phone.

Too bad Pokemon Go only installs on IOS 9.3.x, so the jailbreak solution is no option…. :-(

Quick question… is it possible through tethering, to use a jailbroken iphone’s “fake” location, to trick a non-jailbroken iphone? Once, tethered, does the primary device also push the GPS location to the tethered devices? I ask because I am thinking about using this trick on an old iPhone I have, and I want to know if I can then use it to trick my wife and I’s non-jailbroken iphone into using the faked location…

A complete tutorial on how to do the Pokemon Go GPS hack on an iOS device with a PC running Windows. We used VMWare player (free) with an OS X image and an “unlocker” to patch the VMware player to allow apple operating systems. Then I installed Xcode on the virtual OS X, connect an iPhone to the virtual machine, spoof the GPS, and show you how to utilize it with Pokemon Go. At the end of the video, I go over a few tips on how to avoid getting caught using this method.

I turned it on and opened pokemon go. It can’t detect my GPS signal. I am running iOS 8 with jailbroken and also installed the Pokemon GO patch to make it work. Anyone have it working?
