Samsung Galaxy Marshmallow Problems: 5 Things to Know (2017)

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update is far from perfect and we continue to hear about Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow problems plaguing Galaxy S7, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S5, and Galaxy Note 4 users as we push into 2017.

Samsung’s Galaxy Android Nougat update is starting to pickup speed but that hasn’t stopped Marshmallow. The company continues to roll the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update out to Galaxy-branded devices across the globe.

We’ve seen bug fixers and new security builds for the Samsung Galaxy S7Samsung Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 4Galaxy S6, and the Galaxy Note 5. Other flagships, like the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S5, might stay on Marshmallow.

Samsung’s Android Marshmallow updates are also pushing out to various mid-range Galaxy smartphones, and Galaxy tablets.

Like its predecessor, Android Marshmallow brings powerful new features to Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones. And like Android Lollipop, the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update brings its own set of frustrating problems.

Galaxy-S7-vs-S6-back

While many users are enjoying the fruits of Samsung’s labors, others are running into problems with their version of Marshmallow.

Today we want to take a broad look at these issues and help you get on the right track if you’re worried about problems or if you’re are sensing trouble on your device.

These are the most important things to know, right now, about Samsung Galaxy Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow problems.

Samsung Galaxy Android 6.0.1 Problems

The first thing to know about Samsung Galaxy Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow problems is that there are (surprise surprise) Samsung Galaxy Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow problems.

Note-5-5-1.22.32-PM

AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint Galaxy Note 5 users are complaining about battery drain, issues with Wi-Fi, and various download problems. Other users are seeing problems with Bluetooth, the Amazon app, Voicemail, and more.

Users outside of the United States are also seeing a variety of Android 6.0.1 issues, many of which fall in line with the problems Samsung Galaxy Note 5 customers in the U.S. are encountering after the update.

Galaxy Note 5 users aren’t alone either.

Galaxy-S7-vs-S6-more

Samsung Galaxy S7 users are seeing sync issues, an issue where the device doesn’t wake up properly, battery life problems, issues with various apps including Chrome, and more.

Of course, Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge and Galaxy Note 5 Marshmallow problems are just the tip of the iceberg.

Galaxy-S7-backmain

Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge users are seeing much of the same. Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow problems include random reboot issues, problems with battery life, boot loops, syncing issues, problems with applications, issues with Doze, and more.

Galaxy Note 4 users are seeing issues with Wi-Fi, boot loops, freezes, lag, app problems, and more. Galaxy S5 users are also seeing problems. They include problems with notifications, installation errors, battery life problems, and more.

We aren’t pointing these out to nitpick. We are pointing them out so that you’re aware of them if you’re still waiting on a Android 6.0.1 update. The more attention these Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow problems get the better.

If you’re having a great time on Lollipop, or something older, be sure to take your time with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

It’ll be tempting to install your new update right away but you’ll want to do your homework before you make the move.

Android 6.0.1 Bug Fix Updates

Fortunately, Samsung isn’t sitting on its hands. The company, and its carrier partners, are taking action and addressing these Android 6.0.1 problems.

Samsung’s been rolling out a slew of brand new Galaxy Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow builds in regions across the globe and these updates should alleviate at least some of these problems.

Galaxy-s7-back1

Samsung’s rolled out out huge updates for the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. T-Mobile’s pushed out some important bug fix updates for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. And Verizon recently joined the party with some updates of its own. Just to name a few.

Samsung and its carrier partners will continue to improve on its version of Marshmallow, even as the company transitions to Google’s Android 7.0 Nougat operating system.

Keep an eye out for new updates as we push deeper into the year. We should see a steady stream of bug fix updates and security patches.

How to Prepare & Where to Find Feedback

It’s difficult to predict what you might run into after you install the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update on your Galaxy phone or tablet. That’s why you should prepare before you take the plunge.

We’ve put together a game plan that will take you step-by-step through the process we use before every Galaxy Android update.

Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow is a huge update and big updates can cause big problems. A little prep work could go a long way toward preventing problems on your phone or tablet.

Galaxy-S6-13

As we push deeper into the year, it would be wise to keep tabs on your update’s performance.

Once your Marshmallow update or bug fixer starts rolling out, you’ll want to poke around for feedback from other users, especially if you’re feeling leery about making the move to a new Android build.

This feedback will alert you to potential problems and help you decide if you want or need the Android 6.0.1 update and its features. Many of you will, some of you might decide that you’re better off on Lollipop.

There are a few places to do this. You can poke around forums like XDA-Developers and Android Central Forums.

You can head to carrier-specific forums on XDA or carrier websites (AT&TVerizon & Sprint, etc). You can also use social media sites like Twitter to gather valuable feedback from fellow users.

How to Fix Galaxy Android 6.0.1 Problems

Android forums, XDA-Developers, social media sites, and carrier forums are great places to go for help with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow problems. We also have some resources that could help you wipe out any issues you’re having with the software.

Samsung-Galaxy-S6

We’ve also put together a list of fixes for Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow problems. This is a great place to start if you’re already having problems with Samsung’s new OS.

We’ve also put together a list of fixes for Galaxy S7 problems, Galaxy S6 problems, and Galaxy Note 5 problems.

If you’re dealing with Android Auto issues after upgrading to Marshmallow, you’ll want to take a look at Google’s help site for a potential fix.

And finally, you might consider installing the Android Nougat update, if one is available for your device. The new update brings bug fixes and patches with it so it’s definitely worth a look if and when it arrives for your smartphone or tablet.

Android Nougat & Security Updates

There’s a chance you won’t be able to find a manual fix for your Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow issue. It happens all the time. If that’s the case, you’ll just have to remain patient.

Again, Samsung and its partners are still rolling out periodic bug fixes for Marshmallow-powered devices so you’ll want to keep your eyes peeled for those upgrades.

Android-N-main

Samsung continues to roll out monthly security updates and there’s always a chance those will deliver a short list of bug fixes for lingering problems. There’s also a chance they’ll magically help or hurt your device’s performance.

Samsung Galaxy devices are now getting upgraded to Android Nougat and the first updates are hitting the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, Galaxy S6, and Galaxy S6 Edge.

The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are first in line to Nougat but Samsung’s planning an extensive roll out in the first half of 2017.

Galaxy-S7-side

Samsung’s first Android Nougat updates are based on Android 7.0, not Android 7.1.1 or Android 7.1.2, but they’ll still deliver bug fixes and tweaks.

If you can’t wait that long for to fix your Galaxy Marshmallow problem(s), or if you’re using a device that’s not considered a flagship model, you’ll need to be extremely proactive in the weeks ahead. Dig into feedback and potential fixes for your device.

Android Nougat has the potential to correct some of Marshmallow’s mistakes but you can’t rely on Samsung to solve your issues.

3 Reasons Not to Install Galaxy S7 Nougat & 8 Reasons You Should

Install Nougat If You Want Better Security

Install Nougat If You Want Better Security

Let's start with some basics.

If you value your security, and most of you probably do, you'll want to think about installing an Galaxy S7 Nougat update soon after it arrives for your device.

Every month, Google and Samsung release important security patches for Android devices. Your Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Android Nougat update should bring the latest security patches to your device.

Samsung's initial batch of Galaxy S7 Nougat updates delivered the company's January security update but the latest updates deliver newer security patches. You can read more about them over on Samsung's website

If you failed to download or receive an older security update (May, June, etc), you'll also get those patches when you install Android 7.0 Nougat for the first time.

On top of the patches, Samsung's Galaxy S7 Nougat update brings Samsung Pass, a way to secure your identity using biometric data rather than entering your password or ID.

Samsung Pass is like a master key for your various logins and it relies on Galaxy S7's fingerprint scanner. The biometric data is encrypted and stored safely by Samsung Knox.

I recieved a pre-order S7 recently, and when I plug an Aux cable into into to it play music on my car stereo I recieve a lot of very strong static and hissing. It renders the audio un-listenable. The problem is less with headphones and non-existent with Bluetooth. This has been a huge headache since I drive a lot.

For Samsung user hold Volume Up + Home + Power after Hold down the Power button and tap Volume Up. You’ll see the Android system recovery menu appear at the top of your screen. Select wipe data / factory reset with the volume keys and tap the Power button to activate it. Select Yes – erase all user data with the volume buttons and tap

My Verizon Note 5 is having issues with battery drain and multiple apps (including Amazon) refusing to update. I’ve soft reset, cleared cache and data and hard reset the device many times each and still no avail. Really wish I knew about the problems before hand. Next time I’ll wait until feedback is available on a new build before upgrading. I wouldn’t care as much if the phone was at least root capable and I could assess the issues myself but Samsung is denying it’s customers happiness as usual lol.

Oh and I forgot to mention. My Note 5 has also locked up on me 3 times since the update, each time automatically rebooting itself. The phone is brand new so there isn’t an excuse.

I have the ATT Note 5 and I have not got the Marshmallow update yet. But the other day my note did update to 5.1.1 lollipop and I have had issues ever since. My screen rotation lock doesn’t work, my phone constantly vibrates for no reason and I turned all vibration to my phone off, my original factory charger isn’t working. I have to literally turn my phone off to charge it up. My phone is brand new too. I just bought it February 28th. And it worked flawlessly until it updated. And also I heard from numerous Marshmallow Users that they can no longer use custom or 3rd party fonts on their phones anymore. What’s up with that? And also after reading this article I noticed that they were saying we should hold off till we know more about this new update but the other day when I got that Lollipop 5.1.1 update I was able to keep hitting the upgrade later button when it would pop up but that night when I got out the shower It had started the update automatically and I couldn’t do anything to stop it then. Do I have a choice in rather I update to Marshmallow or no? If so how do I stop it from updating? Cause If custom fonts aren’t working then I want to hold off till they get them working again before I get the update!

      03/31/2016 at 6:09 am

Thanks for your comment, Nikki about the phone vibrating for no reason; I just loaded Marshmallow on my S6 Edge and this constant vibrating is driving me nuts! Good to hear that I am not the only one having this issue (and like you, I also did a factory reset but fail to overcome this vibrating issue).

I hope Samsung will sort this out sometime soon

I have an S6 and the vibration started after the upgrade 6.0 .1. Go to settings, accessibility, notification reminder and turn it off….see if that works. Worked for me. It was vibrating every minute driving me nuts. Thank goodness there was someone else out there on the net that had this answer! Hope it works for everyone reading this.

Marshmallow 6.0.1 in samsung phone has problem in using 4G LTE services. It will prompt to update google play services but it will not update it. Some apps will be updated some will not you try clear cache but it will of no use.
I would say not to update with 6.0.1 version wait for next update of 6 version to come. Its good to enjoy Lollipop rather than struggling in Marshmallow at least you will be happy with what you have got !!!

      03/23/2016 at 8:26 am

How do we avoid updating? I have a Galaxy Note 5 ATT and I don’t want to update to Marshmallow. I want to wait like you suggested but when I got the last update which was Lollipop 5.1.1 I tried to avoid it also and It allowed me to all that day. When It would pop up saying I needed to update I would hit the remind me later or what ever it says. But that night while I was in the shower it started the update automatically. When I got out the shower it was already installing it. So I’m searching for a way to avoid updating when it does pop up.

Is there any way to uninstall an update?! Ever since the update on my Galaxy S6, some of my games are locking up, I’m having terrible battery drain issues, my Swype keyboard is lagging, texting is lagging, I’ve lost the ability to use Wi-Fi. My phone used to be flawless, now it’s junk. I wish I saw this article before my phone updated on March 23rd because I would never have allowed it!!

I found a way to correct my Galaxy S6 failure to auto-rotate after installing Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow! Pull down Settings from the top of the screen. One icon showing on the top row is “Portrait”. Touch it and it becomes “Auto-rotate”.

I have a galaxy note 4 and every time I restart my phone it disconnects the sd card. And I absolutely hate this new default setting for apps. I liked having choices because I didn’t always use the same setting. And now you can’t chose to store your apps on the sd card anymore. This new update stinks!

Of course u can still store apps on the SD card. Its just not as obvious as it was before.

Since the update, the autocorrect on my us cellular galaxy s6 is constantly wanting to change the word to a completely different word when I use punctuation. Especially with question marks and exclamation points. It takes the word “great!” And tries to change it to “g!” OR if I say “thanks?” It changes it to “the?” And all kinds of other goofy stuff. One time it changes “goodbye!” to “I!” Only all of these without the quotes. Very frustrating to have to constantly fix what are completely correct words. Have even tried restarting my device.

After updating my galaxy s6 i was no longer able to change my font, because no app is apparently “compatible” with my device. Also my network is either really slow, or i don’t have any at all.
    This update is ridiculously flawed.

I’m having this issue as well!! I’m glad I’m not the only one. Been messaging Samsung back and forth for a couple of days now, and all they could tell me is that the problem is with the developer of the font, not with Samsung!

I am a font Porter for android and I’m still on 5.1.1 on my Note 5 because I knew about all the problems with Marshmallow and I tried to warn all my customers and followers but most of them updated anyhow and now they are regretting it and even tho my fonts are working fine I have been searching for well over a week for a fix. I called Samsung and they told me that they can’t fix it and its not on their end and I needed to contact ifont. So I did just that and after numerous emails ifont finally responded by saying they can’t fix it either and if u updated then ur pretty much stuck with no more custom or 3rd party fonts unless u root. They said even if they update their app it still wont work with Marshmallow.

That can’t be right because after trying all fonts on playstore i went to the samsung store and it still won’t work. Which makes no sense since it did before i got the update.

Galaxy 6 phone: Problem – 6.0 Marshmallow has created a problem with Android Auto in my 2016 Chevy Tahoe.

Previously, with Lollipop, upon connecting cable, the Bluetooth turned on, the phone entered Android Auto, and the MyLink displayed the Android Auto Icon.

Since Marshmallow was pushed this morning, when I connect the cable, the Bluetooth does not turn on, the phone starts Android Auto but I get a message bar that says the connection is for charging only. If you tap the message bar, a list comes up with various connection choices listed.

I have to go in and select Data Transfer (top of the list) instead of the default Charging (bottom of the list). In addition, I have to manually turn on the Bluetooth. Royal pain because every time I plugin the phone, I have to got through the manual switching where before in Lollipop it all went automatically.

I am having the same problem. Every time I disconnect the cable or turn off the car I have to go through the same process. I have a new S7 and this is ridiculous. The same thing happened to a friend of mine with an S6 after it was updated with marshmallow. you should get Android when you plug in!

Steve – I took my 2016 Tahoe in to get the latest/android auto update. I am really doing it just to address iOS issues. They say that the version I have from November is the latest version, and I just can’t see that as being true. Could you tell me if your updated Tahoe has a software version number other than 23415881 please? Thank you! -Eric

That function to swipe to delete an email has been removed from Marshmallow 6.0.1. The new procedures require either 3 or 4 steps depending on the one used. Backwards thinking on Samsung’s part.

The new marshmallow update 6.0.1 is bad. Verizon Galaxy S6. The display is not near as bright. Need to keep it on full brightness to see it clearly during the day, never needed full brightness before. Battery drains twice as fast as before when you are using the phone. Phone gets warm when using, never did that either, might explain the excessive battery drain. Photo editing is no good. It is very complicated compared to what it was. Click on a photo, rotate, crop, all from one screen. Now you have to switch around and find the editing buttons and then it saves the picture to another folder which is a pain.

Are there any other 2016 Honda Accord Owners out there experiencing problems with Android Auto and Smartphone connection? All were working fine with Lollipop. But now after Marshmallow, I cannot get Android Auto to work or a smartphone connection. Do not know how to fix this. Very frustrating. When I tap the Smartphone tab on the touchscreen it says “no connection found.” Yet, my phone is paired to the system. HELP!

Once plugged into the stereo scroll down your notifications and look for the one that says usb is charging. Click it and select media transfer protocol. It should start AA within a few seconds. Unfortunately until a patch is made this the way you’ll have to start it every time you connect.

I have a 2016 Civic & with the same problem. I have talked to Honda & they are supposed to be pressuring samsung to find a fix. Honda representatives were also able to just plug-in to get android with an S6 until it was updated to marshmallow. It is a real pain to have to go through a setup every time you remove power from the cable. Everyone I have talked to that has been updated to marshmallow is having the same problem!

The following has worked for me.Put navigation destination into your phone-hookup USB from car to phone pull down hidden menu from top of page-tap on connected for charging-tap on transfer media files (top choice)-android will replace smart phone on car menu-tap on android icon-navigation will now show on car screen. The problem with this is that you have to do this every time you shut off the car or disconnect the USB cable, Hopefully they will correct this to the way it was before the marshmallow,

I have a Samsung Galaxy 6, I did not want the update but it downloaded when I was charging it. I was having bluetooth issues, called verizon to troubleshoot and whatever they did completely lost the app, tried to reinstall and would not.
Auto correct is out of control, not even close to what I’m swping, takes forever cause I have to correct the auto correct.
Eeverything is lagging in texting and when I use Google
My photos are automatically saved to dcim instead of gallery, editing is now added steps. Today I went to Best Buy and their Samsung rep completely wiped out my albums, 1899 photos are in one folder under dcim, my docs are now encrypted. And they don’t know how to fix the problems they created let alone marshmellow issues.
BAttery is draining and if this isn’t bad enough. Verizon says I’ve used my monthly data allowance in the 1st 2days of cycle, impossible I’ve been on wifi, mobile data was turned off. All default settings had been changed on upgrade but I had turned off data.
I’m ready to scream. Best buy said the update was for later models than s6!! So why SAMSUNG did you make us do this? Can’t uninstall and no one seems to know how to fix .

  43. Wish I had not upgraded!

    04/14/2016 at 12:15 pm

I should have read this before clicking on ‘OK’ for the upgrade. I did not realize it would make such a mess of my phone. Some of the issues are even being called ‘features’ by Samsung and Google like having to swipe before putting in the login pattern (what a waste of time and effort). This is a bug in my opinion and they just want to spin it off. Another issue is the difficulty with screen brightness and the font colors (now orange and changing constantly) – it is all very hard to read with the new white backgrounds. I am having issues with just the reading.
Fortunately my phone carrier has said that if all these issues are not fixed soon, they will replace my Samsung with an iPhone. Thank you TMobile!

Before the update I was able to disable the badgeprovider in (system apps) to take off the number icon on my apps which I find VERY annoying. I have the galaxy note 5 with Verizon. My phone was working perfectly. Now that it has updated ,everything the update was supposed to fix that was supposedly wrong before, now does not work. Pandora fast forwards through each song and wont play, Facebook only refreshes on occasion, sometimes not for a whole day. My auto correct is totally bonkers, try to type forward and it wont accept it and changes it to go, for example. My data connection barely works at all unless on Wi-Fi and even then it will say unable to connect. my phone is a brick now and I can barely use it. >:(

Many Note 4 Problems. High battery drain, turns off between 20 and 30 % battery reading, reboots in the middle of a call, apps that worked great now display two thirds size etc. If you have not upgraded, DON’T!!!!. I would like to go back to 5.4 but Sprint tech support says it is not possible. Google …. get your act together.

Galaxy S5 update to marshmellow 4/23/16. Total disaster. lost my phone, the data and most all the settings. The speakerphone has been killed and is barely audible. About what I would expect from Samsung, the company that can’t spell customer service let alone provide any.

  57. Marshall

    04/23/2016 at 9:08 pm

I also forgot the 6.0 eats battery like I like chocolate. A sprint tech told me there is an algorithim in 6.0 that monitors your usage for the first two or three days and adjusts the apps going live to conform to your use. Saves battery life. So far I have seen no evidence of that.

    04/26/2016 at 5:06 am

Ever since the update my battery got worse. It’s not too bad when I’m using it. It lasts about 5-7 hours. Before it would last 7-8 hours within use. My brothe’s phone used to last 7-8 hours within use, but it now lasts 14-15 hours within use and he has his “screen timeout” set to 5 minutes. Mine was set to 30 seconds and now it’s set to 1 minute. Didn’t make a difference and neither did power saving or airplane mode. We have same phone, so I don’t understand how his battery could be doing really well while mine doesn’t last as long. I’ll listen to music overnight and it’ll drain 20% compared to 2 or 3 percent with the lollipop update. My screen will keep flickering green when I turn on power saving and it hurts my eyes. I’ve tried turning up the brightness, but it goes back to flickering after a short while. I rebooted my phone, cleared cache partition, cleared cache, uninstalled and reinstalled apps. I can’t root my phone because my family and I don’t have cable or wifi.

    • Andrea

      05/19/2016 at 8:10 am

My brother did a factory reset because he would get ads popping up on everything randomly. Now his battery life is the same as mine. My screen will still flash green constantly. I don’t care about my battery life being shortened since I still have a pretty decent battery life. I just wish the flickering would stop. Now it doesn’t even matter if I have power saving mode on or off. I have my brightness set up to the halfway mark on auto brightness.

      • hr0201

        06/06/2016 at 7:22 am

Andrea, I’ve had the same strange screen problem as you. I went to Samsung and tey suggested replacing the screen for over 150€ I went to a phone market and the guy scratched my battery terminals with tweezers and it improved the problem, although I still saw it sometimes. Another problem was that in cold weather the screen would not come on until I pushed the power button many times. But if I put the screen against my body it would come on with one push! I just got an update to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow today and also got a new battery today. The flickering is only very, very slightly noticeable when I set the display to automatic brightness and all the way to the lowest level. Of course it won’t completely eliminate your problem, but I hope scratching your battery terminals helps or if it’s old, replacing your battery.

I installed the update to my S6 Edge on Sunday morning and then kept getting notifications ‘Unfortunately, xx has stopped.’ until it finally shut the screen down. On restart, I got the fatal ‘Unfortunately, System UI has stopped.’ from which I couldn’t get into my phone at all. Cleared cache, rebooted more times than I can remember, started in safe mode – nothing worked. PC didn’t recognise the device when I plugged it in so I couldn’t even retrieve files. Eventually had to take it to Samsung repair shop yesterday where they reinstalled the OS. It’s all working fine now but for some reason, I hadn’t had my photo backup activated so I’ve lost a whole year’s worth of photos and videos. And most of my contacts, though this was a blessing really as they were long overdue for a good clear out. But still, I am not happy in the slightest. There were a lot of good pics on there including some of a friend who’s since died. At least it’s taught me a valuable lesson in backing up data :-/

This update is terrible and companies like T-Mobile are offering no assistance or solutions. The only options you have are Master Reset (if you haven’t already) or Purchasing a new device as getting the same device will still garner the same issues. I do not understand how they are able to get away with this. As mentioned by someone else, Wi-Fi was on and my device updated on it’s on while Charging. Now my phone will not charge beyond 50% and it takes about 5 hours to get to that point.

I came on here to see if anyone had any complaints about how annoying auto correct has become since my Marshmallow update, but wow I see it could be so much worse. My problem is that with the update, my phone completely unlearned how I write and refuses to learn again, so it changes words that are even spelled correctly for no reason. I will get over that. I have had virtually no issues with the update and quite enjoy how messages look and other little layout features. I have a Note 5 with Verizon. Hope you all have better luck soon :)

This article says the same thing 100 times before getting to any sort of point. “Users are experiencing problems with the new Android version” – yes, everyone understands that, as it is the main premise of the article. It is not necessary to repeat that over and over before mentioning anything else of consequence. This entire article could be 1/4 of its existing length and say everything it needs to say.

I don’t know about anyone else, but to me it seems like the author spent more time eating cats then learning how to write. I went to VZW with a bulleted list of things that were going wrong with my S6. First is was the Voice Mail. Then not being able to send or receive text messages. Then I had to reboot the device several times per day to clear everything. Then when it would reboot it was QUIET. I didn’t even know it had rebooted. Then apps starting up on their own. Finally after visiting VZW stores and talking to VZW tech support on the phone they shipped me a factory like new device. Now it keeps asking me to download 6.0.1 and I keep putting it off because I am waiting for the fix for all the issues to come out first. Actually, I now hate my Galaxy S6. I want another phone but I have less than a year left of my contract. Why don’t they know about these issues before hand? Are we (the public) mere testers for their failed software?????? All this is BS!!!!!!

i updated my s5 last sunday and i dearly regret

it auto closes apps, it sometimes randomly goes back to the unlock screen, it closes keyboard while typing, fast battery drain issues, ram 70-80% in use ALL the time while not running any background apps. (android 5 it mostly was 51-64%)

charge issues, random disconnection error while moving large files to pc. (copied DCIM 29gb to desktop with 2 out of 3 attempts fail rate)

wifi reconnects sometimes for no reason, connection issues with wifi, storage space suddenly full. (started with 12gb of space to install apps and now got 10gb for apps meaning 2gb suddenly got used by the OS)

unresponsive home button, camera app issues. (flash not working becouse it got too warm while tempeture is normal, only 50% of the screen showing up for 3 seconds and more, taking long to take pictures etc.)

hotter tempeture than with android 5. (cpu alone increased with 5-10c in a room of 20-22c)

after update it took a full day before it found my apps on the sd card, booting up also takes twice as long now.

really i hope fixes come out soon as i really get annoyed by my phone now and i don’t have money to buy a new phone (i btw own this s5 since it’s release without damage becouse of it’s great case that absorbs shocks from falls/hits and it also protects the screen)

I’m facing the most problems that you wrote down here, Rob. I have this phone basically for a year and I had never faced apps crashing or several lags till this update. I’m regreting it everyday..

      Chrome lags when I roll the page down, takes a long time to load the pages;
      Play Store and most apps taking too long to open and with lots of lags too;
      Everyime I roll down my pictures in the Gallery, it takes a while to load the pics bellow (this used to happen with Lollipop only when I put straight to the last pics);
      This grey bar is just terrible and doesn’t fit with any other app’s colors;
      When Battery Save mode is active, you have that odd bar and the battery is simply draining too fast;
      When playing music and locks the phone, they took out the cover art of the albums (I love it, it was so awesome);
      Delays when receiving notifications (messages from Whatsapp for example, the sound seems to play with a delay after the vibration, instead of the two happening together as usual);
Keyboard seems to have a lag when you type too fast, like it doesn’t process it in the right time

I did a Hard Reset for the first time and it didn’t get better as well.. I want my S5 back, with all that great performance with Lollipop.. If Samsung don’t release any updates fixing this, I don’t know what I’m goona do besides hardly regreting it everyday..

      JUST TERRIBLE

I have the wifi issue similar to what others have said after upgrading to 6.0.1 Marshmallow. For instance, when I’m watching a Youtube video, it would start to load and play a chunk of the video, then immediately I see the wifi signal bars begin to drop and eventually disconnect within 10 seconds. Slowly it would connect again after 20-30 seconds and start loading the video again. The cycle repeats itself.

I am having the issue of IR not working after Marshmallow update that came OTA. Tried doing factory reset, but not working. I tried using a camera to view my phones IR and its not even beaming. I cannot even flash stock rom of Lollipop that I had before.
All this because of this stupid Marshmallow. BTW my phone is a N910C gold color.
    Any one with a solution?

My Samsung Galaxy note 5 is my life (complete with a name) and the reason I have invested in other samsung products. However this update is killing my phone and I’m PISSED.
Naviator loses connection and cannot find my location.
Facebook and YouTube can’t load video.
Phone battery dies at an incredible rate despite being in power saving mode and having everything closed in the background.
Voicemails aren’t showing up, calls and texts don’t come through. I run two businesses out of my cell phone. I cannot afford that crap.
There is a major lag problem throughout the phone and when using s voice, it’s a very one sided conversation.
To top it off, it has been resetting itself which it has only done once in its existence prior to this update.

I need help. Marshmallow updated onto my phone and now the swipe pattern doesn’t work and am locked out. I have Sprint, Samsung S6 it is saying wrong pattern 1 hour wait time between, it is the correct pattern prior to going from lollipop to marshmallow android 6.0.1 gives you option to enter backup pin which I am entering correct back up pin & not working either. Lollipop used to let you use google back up password but marshmallow doesn’t. I will not factory reset as I know one day (hopefully today) there will be a work around. Tried find my device through samsung but it isn’t compatible with sprint. Tried google android device manager, to reset password, it says phone is already locked. So no simple way to crack through but I am hoping someone out there can give me the fix.

FOR MY SAMSUNG GALAXY S5 , I HAVE LOST ALL MY PHONE’S FEATURES LIKE GREYSCALE MODE , IN POWER SAVING MODE , AND INSTEAD A IRRITATING GREY BAR IN TOP IS SHOWN WHEN POWER SAVING US ACTIVATED , ITS VERY POOR MODE , NOT SAVING ANY BATTERY, 6.0.1 is WORSE THEN LOLIPOP 5.0 , samsung taking back all good features , from galaxy s5 , as it is upgrading the software ,
1st smart scroll, when updated to lolipop .
2nd took back options for power saving , which were in at the time of lolipop , when now giving 6.0.1 update.
3rd took back greyscale mode in power saving when gave 6.0.1 update .
4th power saving grey bar is shown, it looks odd , and it looks as we are using a phone on for which we havent paid to samsung.
5th poor battery efficiency , in 6.0.1 , both in normal as well as power saving modes .
6th heating problems cant be fixed ever.
I think kitkat was best for galaxy s5 phones, at least all the features were present in it that time .

The theory that you purchase a phone Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge with an operating system that works and are forced to update because they drive you crazy with notifications. So you update and now have a phone that you hate.I want to take a sledgehammer and destroy the phone. You can no longer do an easy fix, Samsung remotely
tried to fix my phone today, and could not. Told me there are no options. You can pay to back up and restore your phone. They are the idiots that created the problem. Insanity. I hate Samsung. They just want to give jobs to geeks who are freaks and have no ability to get any other job except to prove how much they can screw up a good thing.

This marshmallow update has ruined my phone! It drains my battery and somehow I have no storage space left. It opens and closes apps and there’s no point in even using a theme anymore beacuse the giant bright coloured app icons dont change. All icons and font is also bigger and it doesnt make a difference when you try change it through the settings. I am really angry with this. People don’t buy these expensive phones so that it can be ruined by an upgrade of an OS!!

I fail to understand how changing to a password after restarting is more safe than my fingerprint. If you couldn’t get the fingerprint to work due to wet/cold fingers, etc., you always had the option to enter a password. Now, you must enter the password after restarting unless you say forgot password, then, you will be allow to use fingerprint swipes. I thought the purpose of the fingerprint was to make it more secure. It’s not like someone can “guess” my fingerprint. I don’t like the change in the call screen-it no longer shows the picture in the full screen. If I go to another app during the call, it will minimize the call screen and then the picture of the contact appears;however, if you enlarge the call screen again, the picture goes away and I am left with a blank screen with contact name only. It has seemed to resolve my freezing issues. The phone does seem to work more efficiently. Not thrilled with the new icon design. I wish you could choose the style of icons you can display.

    • Debbie

      06/07/2016 at 10:44 am

I have found that if you go into contacts and edit picture and reload a picture and save, that it will then start displaying the picture full screen instead of only in the small reduced screen.

Not sure if related, but I upgraded my phone I think a week ago. I’ve had this phone for almost 1 year. No major issues. Woke up this morning and the screen was frozen, dark. Couldn’t get the device to restart. I checked on google, found the “power+volume down” soft reset trick. Kinda works but the phone, once turned on would only stay on for about 30 secs before crashing and freezing again. Dark screen all over again. No matter how many times I’d try the soft reset or press the power button, It won’t work. Then it does, and the screen looks weird, distorted, gets back to normal, would work for about 30 secs, before crashing and turning itself off again. I am trying to save the data and do a factory reset but Smart Switch isn’t working well with the phone atm and to be fair, the crashing and dying all the time doesn’t give me much time to do anything !

I have no issues. I have the metro pcs Samsung galaxy s6. I upgraded to 6.0.1 2 days ago with no issues, but I have seen issues with my customers. Here are the steps I do to remedy the issues.
Step1, I recommend all my users to make a back up of all there data including copying from via USB to pc. Step2, after everything is backed up there are methods to choose 1. Reset your phone either soft reset or hard reset. 2. Delete all cache via holding power button turn off phone hold power button thumb button volume up till you see a bluescreen with yellow triangle wait 5seconds till your in a black screen with text, Google YouTube videos on the rest. Method 3 with rooted phones make sure you back up your super user files and if you have custom booting etc make sure you can update without creating boot loop issues. Back on topic upgrading to 6.0.1 is easy but it’s recommended to wipe the phone before updating. So far known issues for my customers are 1.laggy videos and typing. 2. Random reboots due to heat issues with games and charging. 3. Battery drains to fast, email me for steps on fixing these issues.

Yeah I’m having some problems. My phone doesn’t seem to be having the issue with the artery life but it is definitely overheating. Chrome seems to be opening several Web pages over the course of the day and whenever I use spotify it will only play 2 songs at a time before I have to push start and stop on my phone a coup me of times to get it going. Then I have these random spurts of lag, and I mean MASSIVE lag that takes up to a minute for some of my commands to register…which can lead to some dangerous downloads.

I tried to find a way to contact Google with no luck. We have 3 Note 4s and all have problems … i.e. reboots, shut downs with 30% battery, lockups, apps that no longer work as they did on Android 5.

So Frustrated with Samsung. Note 5 with Sprint. Seems after the update my e-mail, calendar, Wi-Fi connectivity, Facebook are such a pain to use. I tried doing everything they said to do to fix the issues. Soft reset followed by two hard resets. Issue still persists! Samsung does not have loner phones and tell me it will be 5-11 business days. I told them I bought this phone specifically for business and now I can’t even use it for that and on top of that you want me to be without it for 2 weeks? I was told they have a 72 hour turn around option, as I was checking on the process they informed me there is no such program, phone is already at their facility in TX. You can imagine how upset I am with the lack of customer service. I know the problems won’t be over as they will not be able to check my issues because they had me wipe the exchange before it went in for service. Hoping things work out but seems as once they get the money you no longer matter… So Frustrated with Samsung!!

If you have the T-mobile Galaxy S5 DONT upgrade to marshmallow I’ll list the bugs.
    – laggy
    – Gets really hot after 2 minutes of use (SETTINGS APP)
    – Battery drain
    – Booting on/off takes longer than lollipop
    – If you have mobile data disabled and if you cut off your device off mobile data will be on again
    – Memory problem went from 10.18GB to 9.90GB
    – Installing apps and Uninstalling apps takes forever
PLEASE FIX THESE PROBLEMS SAMSUNG AND YES I DID DO A FACORY RESET.

      06/25/2016 at 2:50 pm

I have the exact same issues as you with my Galaxy S5. The battery drain and hot phone is ridiculous. I turn on my phone at 8:20am every morning and by 10:00am it’s at 70%. By 8:23am the phone itself screen and back is extremely hot. I’ve done the factory reset to no avail. T-Mobile and Samsung both just push you off and neither accepts responsibility. I constantly have to put my phone on the charger and put on the Ultra Power Saving mode. They have rendered my phone essentially useless because after a week or so of ignoring the update the window wouldn’t leave the screen. It forced you to do the update or you couldn’t use the phone. smh They need to fix this mess immediately or figure out how to let everyone go back to lollipop. UGH

I did the Marshmallow update a couple of weeks ago. The first thing I noticed was that the battery was draining very quickly. After checking the battery hogs under “Settings” and “Battery”, it showed that the Bluetooth was the main culprit. I used to be able to leave the Bluetooth on all the time with no impact on the battery. Now, I have to turn it off when I am not using it, or it will quickly drain the battery. I talked to Verizon and Samsung support and they were very unhelpful and didn’t have a clue. Subsequent to that, Samsung pushed out another update, evidently to fix other problems that the Marshmallow update was causing, but it didn’t address the Bluetooth issue.

I am also noticing that the internet connections over WiFi seem a lot more sluggish than they used to be. In many cases, pages are unresponsive and load very slowly. Not something I can really quantify yet, but I am pretty sure that Marshmallow has also wrecked something here.

I have a SG Note 5 and after the upgrade to 6.1, my service always jumps off meaning I never have service if I’m not on WIFI and to make matters worse it keeps kicking me off of wifi then it will jump back on…I am getting so frustrated with this because this means that if I’m not home connected to my WiFi I’m not sure if I’ll have service or not!!..I am on Straight Talk plan (AT&T)..called ST..they were able to reboot my phone so that I would have service…oh I forgot…when I did the update it also erased my APN settings…I’m so mad because now its hit or miss with my phone… Samsung PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE fix these problems!!

SOLVED, issue: cant connect to wifi after upgrade to Android 6 in a Samsung GS5. It asked for the password but after press connect it just say”saved” and it did not try to connect. Tried forguet network but nothing, tried change ssid and pass in the router but nothing. Tried delete cache in the mobile but nothing.
What solved the issue was enter in the router, change the security of the network to nothing, then connect with the S5 and connected, then changed again the security to password and then tried and worked. Hope it helps.

I unfortunately was the recipient of this upgrade on my Samsung Galaxy S5. I had a 64Gig Samsung SD card as my additional storage for this phone. I had 30 Gig of data on the storage with all my years worth of images and videos, music … ect… I scheduled the update to occur at midnight while i was a sleep. Woke up in the morning to see my SD card was wiped clean. all my data was gone purged “Samsung Galaxy S 5 , Deleted all my SD card ” I will start posting everywhere this message. this should be the top priority of any QA / QC team when releasing new software. I don’t want to hear about backup to the cloud BS from anyone cuz that should only matter if i dropped my phone in the toilet or i zapped it, not in this case. this is clearly an android and Samsung problem.

I used Testdisk but sofar no file recovery in sight.

      Possible Solution:
I installed Marshmallow 1-2 weeks ago. All was fine. Today, at some point my SD card was wiped of everything. Not even showing up as being installed.I did call Samsung and Google (Samsung told me to G at 855-836-3987), but both partied were passing the hot potato back and forth and not accepting responsibility. google said that # is for their phones anyway.

      **SOLUTION (?):
I restarted the phone and it is now back with all files, photos, etc. Have you tried that yet? Did it work?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 and am having trouble adding words to my dictionary. I can type a word and hit the check mark so the system knows the word but when I type the same word in a new text it does not recognize it anymore. I do not have an option of long-pressing the word and adding to the dictionary from there, not do I have an option of going into settings and manually adding words to my dictionary. Please fix.

This new Marshmallow update is horrible! Not only is my S5 phone lagging and the battery is dying faster, but I’m not receiving text msgs and phonecalls ever since i updated my phone. Fix this! Horrible update. It’s been over a month and even after all these complaints, no changes have been made.

I hate Marshmallow so much! I had no issues when using Lollipop. I upgraded to Marshmallow on my S5 to get rid of the notification on my phone… Immediately doing so, half my photos and music disappear. They did come back the next day. I should have followed my gut instinct and backed everything up on my computer because a week later, my phone turned off suddenly on it’s own and when it turned back on, it no longer recognizes my SD card at all. It completely ruined the card. It can’t be read on any device, my S5 or the computer. It’s as if my SD card doesn’t exist at all. I literally had EVERYTHING saved to my SD card… about 1000 photos, all my music, most of my apps… I lost all of that because ever since I updated to Marshmallow, my phone has randomly turned off on its own… The battery drain is HORRIBLE! On Lollipop it would turn off around 2-5% battery left… Now it turns off around 30% battery life. Even when I was using data and battery draining apps, on Lollipop my phone averaged about 4 hours from 100%. On Marshmallow, the battery will drain to 75% easily without me even using it in a matter of minutes. I constantly have to keep a charger with me because it just dies too quickly now. I also have this weird keyboard issue… It blocks everything and locks on top. Even on my lock screen. It just gets in the way. I’m so upset and irritated with using my phone ever since the update and I’ve always preferred Android to iOS because I feel it functions a bit better but this is the worse ever.

Can usually just plug into my work computer with USB, and drag-n-drop files (mainly photos from job sites) from the DCIM folder directly to a folder on my computer.

The FCC needs to address the issues of electronics manufacturers who sabotage their products with software updates forcing customers to abandon perfectly good working products for newer lesser products, e.g., disgruntled Note 4 Marshmallow user who won’t be upgrading to a Note 5 with it’s less than iphone approach. Will it happen most likely not, but maybe the good old spirit of competition will open the door for a underdog to save us from Samsung and Apple. I would gladly settle for my once perfectly good Note 4 to work flawlessly again.

I have a galaxy s6 from AT&T and I am having issues after the update. Battery drain, super hot on the right side bear power button, takes 20 minutes to get service after booting on, have to charge it powered off or it will still drain and the Internet is horrible. The only thing that AT&T said was just do a reset and it may help, I can’t get my pc to find my phone to back it up. They have no clue what to do after this update. Just put it back to factory and then re-download the updates. No way samsung needs to get a patch out before our phones burn up.

I cannot stand this update at all. It does not allow the phone owner to personalize text as much or even their lock screens. Not only this but it has has wifi issues and even service issues, my messages app was pure white and would not respond until hours later. Simply put, its horrible. I see an update being something that adds on or changed small simple things, not taking away features that users do use and enjoy to use. If there was a way to go back to my phone was before, I would go back to it in a heart beat. The worst update I have ever had on a phone. : /

My Note 4 has been terrible since Marshmallow. Battery drains 50% quicker than it use too, the keyboard lags, speak to text is now TERRIBLE, apps lock up. I tried all the fixes – nothing I am so annoyed right now that I am seriously at a different phone next time…and a previously LOVED my Note 4

I have the same issues on my note 4. also time is not in-sync with other phones so when in a text conversation my responses appear above their older text bubble.

Keyboard lag is very annoying. wifi dropping sometimes, not rotating sometimes, and lagging all over even though processors not even close to being maxed.

The Marshmallow update was just pushed out to my Galaxy Tab S2 which had been working fine. After the update, the tablet is basically a brick. Constantly (every minute or so) auto-reboots, sometimes hangs at the Samsung banner, often hangs at the powered by Android screen, lights sometimes stay on, battery charging symbol sometimes stays on, several seconds lag, won’t connect to the Samsung bluetooth keyboard, sometimes acts as if it’s locked up and swiping or using the power button has no effect. Seems to have a mind of it’s own and does random stuff just sitting there with nobody touching it. Would be funny to watch if it wasn’t so sad. Forced reboot makes no difference. Factory reset results in welcome screen with no response to swipes and more random reboots. Fortunately I just bought the device a week ago and will return it today. Whoever made the irresponsible decision to push this release out should be fired. There’s no excuse for this level of incompetence.

Galaxy S5. Marshmallow update 2 weeks ago. Since then I’ve had to recharge almost every day which is unusual. The phone takes variable time to wake up…so far I average 3 second wait for the phone to be responsive. Unexplained forced closures on programs I haven’t had issue with…and those round icons…why, and why did my ring tones and notification tones all change? And the fade in and put when waking or putting the phone to sleep…looks fancy but is of no use and slows the process down. ..again why?

Just finished second software update…..seems they’ve fixed the slow wake-up issue.

Since I have Gear VR I do not want these updates, but after trying to choose cancel at the stupid last Lollipop update screen that popped up twice a day for a week it “automatically” updated itself!!! Luckily then I got not VR problems. Now I decided to give in right away since I hate these nagging update screens especially since I know they will ignore your cancellation of update and now I have to pay for just having Android. My fingerprint reader is toasted (have to log in with password) and my Doubletwist app (that plays music) is nonfunctioning even after reinstallation. I then found this web page and I do not look forward to check the other issues that probably are ahead.

My S5’s battery did drain quickly for the first 4-5 days, but then settled down and is even more efficient than it was on Lollipop. I think part of it may be that Doze has learned my habits and so things I don’t use often aren’t using up power in the background.

One comment on some of your good advice: It certainly makes sense to have a checklist of things to do before the upgrade, EXCEPT that it takes the cooperation of your carrier, which isn’t always a given. AT&T at least does not have the common courtesy to notify users when an upgrade is coming. One day there’s just a notification that says an update is ready to be downloaded. It doesn’t say what is in the update or how big it is or how long it will take. You may be able to defer it for a day or so but eventually it’s forced on you whether or not the timing is convenient. When the file’s finally downloaded you might see a vague message about installing it, but even if it’s explicit enough to hint at what it is, or how long the installation might take, it’s all too easy to ok it accidentally rather than deferring it until you can get on the phone to AT&T and make an operator tell you what they have just done to your phone. You don’t get a warning, or time to prepare properly. The AT&T operators like to blame Samsung for this, saying that Samsung decides when to release the update and AT&T has no control over it. That is true only in so far as AT&T has no control over when Samsung will give them the update, but it is AT&T alone that decides when to push it to customers and how customers are notified of what is happening. They choose not to take any responsibility for communicating with us, and I wish they’d just be honest about it.

My Galaxy Note Edge updated a few days ago on its own. Now it has trouble connecting to wifi and I’m worried that I’ll go over my data limit and be charged for it. It’s also causing problems with Facebook, it’s constantly crashing and I can no longer upload photos. Status updates fail repeatedly. None of these problems occurred until the update. My battery drains extremely fast. I was at 99% when I started typing this, and 60 seconds later I’m at 88%.

I received the OTA update to my Galaxy S5 Active a little while ago, right after it updated my phone suddenly no longer transmitted my voice on calls, I can hear them, but they cannot hear me. Some posts said it was lint in the pickup hole, others said clear the cache, yet others said turn Bluetooth off and back on. Nothing works, I have no voice if I plug in a hands free headset cable, use a Bluetooth headset, or even use it in speakerphone capacity. No outgoing sounds at all. yet if I use my voice to text it works just fine so it is picking up my voice, but that is as far as it is going. I have tried clearing the cache and even the factory reset of the device, but neither fixed the issue. I do not see any way to roll back to an earlier version of the software either :(

Ive been a Samsung user since the beggining…lately with the problems after the rediculous number of recent software updates to my phone….Im going to iphone….which I NEVER EVER thought I’d say but Android has severly dissapointed this loooong term customer and after seeing continuous failures to not stay consistent, I’m out. Its been a royal pain in the *** to deal with and it took a long time to push me this far but congrats Samsung … you managed to screw up too many things in such a short time that Im fed up. I have a Note 5 on Verizon. It updated the other day. Now I can’t open any attachments from my email, I cannot download or open PDF files from the Internet, it is always wanting to make me change settings or permissions when I try to open some apps or websites, it keeps talking about an overlay menu or something like that but won’t let me change anything on that menu when it pops up. Sometimes I can’t get into my text messages. My icons for my apps even change their size randomly. This last update is far from a good thing. It has made me want to throw this phone more than once and making me hate Android at the moment.

I would look elsewhere for a phone rather than get stuck with Samsung who does not stand behind their products. Buy any model at your own risk… My glass cracked within 3 months without ever dropping my phone, and now they almost ruined my vaca… from my ATT forum post re: the recent update that caused the battery to completely drain in 4 hrs:

“You guys Freakin’ Rock!! Back to normal battery usage in the nick of time!

I’m leaving for disney today and started freaking out last night when I saw my S7 edge battery completely draining in 4 hrs while in sleep!!! While I suppose I could have disabled auto update I don’t have the luxury of messing around and just uninstalled everything oculus/gear.

Nice work Samsung… Honestly, between this and the Crappy Glass that cracks really easily on the edge models (even the note5&6), I do not recommend anything samsung. I’ve seen to many people with Note6 to S7 with minor cracks due to the crappy glass on these phones. Gorilla glass my butt!”

I’ve read most of the update issues on the Note 5 but didn’t find one mentioning the phone locking up after some calls. Can’t get to the numbers or recent calls so I can’t call out. This also means the phone doesn’t ring with incoming calls. Happens several times a week & I have to restart to fix. It’s a Pita since this is a business phone. Anything fix this other than restarting constantly?

Marshmallow really messed up this beautiful work of art (note 4) not one single issue prior to the update my phone worked and performed as advertised. since the update its lag after crash after severe battery issues. I’ve done all but run over this phone in hopes I could stay with using it but at this point I see no resolve in the near future. Apple it is.

My battery got real hot for me and I uninstalled the vr software now its fine, also as soon as the update was over it said I had an incompatible sd card installed. I had to pull my sd card and do a recovery to get my data back. I got all my photos back but it took about 2 hours. The incompatible sd card was a 32gb Samsung lol. Doesn’t look good from here on out.

I am an IT Professional who labored through 2 weeks of struggle with my Note 4 after the Marshmallow update. Take it from me…Just do a factory reset now if you are having issues. Nothing else worked. Don’t waste your time. I had random reboots and app crashes 5-10 times daily based on phone use including every time I plugged in a charging cable. Yes a factory reset is he biggest pain in rear of all time but it in the end you will get your phone back to 100%. I have had zero issues with any apps or reboots since I did mine…wish I would have done it sooner.

Why pay to have everything backed up when Google back’s up free

    • Jac

      10/20/2016 at 12:57 pm

I always said the same thing. Now I sit here after having to have my phone hard reset. The last system update made chrome act strange. I complained about it but no one seemed to know anything or believe that the update would do that. But it did its now confirmed and they believe me now but it cost me a lot. Like years of my life in backed up in Google thinking it wasn’t that vulnerable. And it’s not…to outside viruses. Internal software corruption however, is apparently very easy. I thought my chrome issues were bad and they did take over the keyboard and entire phone but I didnt ever think that it was also corrupting and deleting whatever it wanted in my backup. So, I am going to keep using Google backup bit I’m going to put things in a few other places too I don’t care if I have to pay for it because I would pay a lot right now to get back what I lost.

Think you have all got off lightly. My Tab S crashed immediately, and it blew the motherboard. I have a completely unusable machine which has supposedly been fixed – the Samsung Tach guys just failed to spot that the motherboard had actually blown! It is under warranty and I don’t believe it will ever work properly again. I have asked for a replacement and Samsung are offering no customer service whatsoever.

Since their last update on, Build MMB29K.G935FXXS1BPJ1, the S7 Edge Keyboard is messed up, adds random letters when hitting a letter after “@” when typing an email address, when trying to log in to Titter with a user name with an under score it adds another underscore when trying to type a letter, this is damn annoying. Whats the point of a smart phone that’s not smart and will not let you log into sites !?

This is my second S7 Edge, the first had to be replaced due to a faulty screen, it had green lines that intermittently appeared down the left side.

    C’mon Samsung, you’re gonna lose customers !

Omg! biggest mistake of my life downloading marshal mellow. I got Note 4 , phone does not charge even after 8 hours of charging. Phone shuts of at 15%. if the phone is 90 charged and it’s in use the battery melts. SAMSUNG has let us down. Cmon samsung get your act together. NOTE 4 had been my fav phone yet. But now you made me change my mind. You better have a quick update folks. Please don’t take shortcuts. THE biggest issue is I cant even roll back. Apple must be smiling.

I have a Note 4 and the phone is not usable anymore. It reboots around 30 times per day on itself. It has many bugs and lag problems and I can’t even make a normal phonecall. Back to iPhone what a BS update. I can’t even understand that they put this update live with this many bugs. unbelievable !

We have 3 Note 4 phone and had the same problem. Two were fixed by doing a cold boot (pain in the ass but works) the other will have to be replaced as it still does what yours is doing. Sprit was supposed to replace with a Note 7 but we know how that went. We are moving to Verizon and getting 3 LG V20 phones with Android 7, replaceable batteries, and installable sd cards. Goodbye Samsung!!!

Guys, don’t update any Galaxy A7 to Android 6.0.1 !. You will have PC connection issues with your A7 phone as the PC will display ‘ unrecognized devices message ‘ when you connect your A7 to any PC or laptop using the USB charging port. Also, the battery charging will be very slow, even when using a fast charger. This happen to my A7 phone when it update automatically to Android 6.0.1 ( OTA ). So beware, Samsung is creating problem on your otherwise perfectly working phone. !

Ok I’m not sure if this is the place to put this but I’ve tried to leave comments on other sites I knew was relevant but it want working. I have recently had issues with my phone charging fast. I went looking online to find a fix and nothing seemed to work, BUT I went into settings and turned my fast charging off in the battery settings and it changed my charge time from 4 hours to 1 hour. Don’t know if it will help everyone but I wanted to share.

A minor problem I noticed after the update, that I personally use a lot, was in Gallery>edit they took away the color match option to remove things from photos and the collage option and now just has “add photo” option. Yes, simple things I could get from another app, but I used the color match option quite often.

Even though for months now, the Samsung update reminder has constantly and annoyingly popped up, I still avoid this update and here I sit with Lollipop. Even if Nougat does come to the Note 5, I still won’t update until I see stellar reviews that it actually works. This Marshmallow debacle is a further embarrassment to Samsung. I will likely look at LG or possibly Google Pixel as my next Android device. Unfortunate, because I really like (liked) the Galaxy Note phone.

My Note 4 has basically been bricked. It reboots all the time or the screen wont turn on. I have to pull the battery for 2-5 minutes just to boot it up and it will onyl stay on for 5-10 minutes. This is insane seeing how all of us spent $600-800 for a device.

I’ve even been to the Samsung Repair Service Center and they couldn’t get it to take a new flash. Factory reset didn’t work either. ATT nor Samsung has been helpful, so out of principle I will not be purchasing anything from either company. Boggles my mind I have to go spend more money when I had a perfectly good working device 3 weeks ago.

I’m from South Africa and have installed the update on Saturday (It took the whole day downloading the update). After installation, my phone couldn’t get past the Samsung logo screen after the first restart. I went to bed eventually and left the phone on, hoping if I wake up on Sunday morning the starting up problem would be resolved. No such luck!!! I’ve spent the whole of yesterday googling and watching youtube videos for a solution. Even download Samsung Kies and still couldn’t get my phone working. The end-result: I had to do a wipe data/factory reset to get my phone working again. Lost all my contacts, videos, photos etc. in the process. Not happy at all!! :-(

Well I really got effed in the Aye. I had downloaded the 6.0.1 update previously but had yet to install it onto the device (rescheduled update). Well I had to factory reset my phone the next day and the update ran DURING the restore. A Note 4 with a fresh restore to 6.0.1 is the ugliest thing i have ever seen. It freezes every minute, and sometimes super freezes then reboots, either (hopefully) restarting or entering the recovery menu with could not boot properly displayed. This usually leads down a dark path of bad boots and failed restores until a dead little android guy appears on my screen. i have run the factory restore, verizon restore, verizon repair tool, verizon upgrade tool, and have taken it to a verizon store to be reflashed. and guess what? Still 6.0.1. Still has the same issues. Any Advice?

You should change, “Fortunately, Samsung isn’t sitting on its hands. I have a Galaxy S5, calender reminders only snooze for 5 minutes now, there’s no way to reset snooze duration, wtf, it’s so annoying to keep snoozing every 5 minutes. This is a basic function, why would they mess with this?

I also notice after my latest upgrade that when I’m texting and a vertical list of suggested words pops up the background is dk charcoal and words are in black font, i cant adjust this in settings, i cant even read the words, and in the dark, forget it theyre invisible, i cant even see them. Battery Drain BEGAN DURING my AT&T Samsung S6 UPDATE in April, 2017. It’s continued to suck battery life out. I’m at 60% battery after a couple hours. It looses 5% sitting dormant for 10 minutes. WHAT IS AT&T GOING TO DO? And before or after I leave AT&T?

My Note 4 has been through all the troubles since it was updated to Marshmallow, repeated restart, frozen screen, battery drainage etc.
I tried all the good advises I could find on the Net, still same result.
But, in the end I found a solution which work very well for my phone, a SM-N910C.
Go to Samsung and download Kiss and at the same place a program
    called “Smart Switch”: https://www.samsung.com/in/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/
    Download both programs and install.
In Kiss install the USB drivers and back up your files.
In Smart Switch go to top right corner, click “More” and choose
    “Emergency software recovery and initialization”
Now follow the instructions and factory drivers will be downloaded and installed. It takes a little time, so be patient.
I hope this will work for you also, good luck.

Problems still persist with 6.0.1. Things were actually fine until the latest security update last month(June) from T-Mobile. Now I am having issues with blutooth staying connected to devices that are tethered to the phone all the time and automatically reconnecting to other previously paired devices when in range like my car stereo. The only fix so far is to reboot the phone which holds the connection for a day or two and then drops again unwilling to repair even when done manually w/o another reboot. Very inconvenient.
