9 Things to Know About the iPhone 5 iOS 9.3.5 Update
The iPhone 5 iOS 9.3.5 update still reigns as the most up-to-date version of iOS 9 and today we want to take a look at the most important things iPhone 5 owners need to know about their version of the iOS 9.3.5 update.
Apple continues to refine its iOS 9 software ahead of the iOS 10 release for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch in the fall.
A new version of the iOS 9.3 update is out for the iPhone 5 and the company’s other iOS 9 powered devices.
Like iOS 9.3.4, Apple’s iOS 9.3.5 update is focused on patching up exploits, not bug fixes. iOS 9.3.5 plugs up some serious security issues and Apple recommends it to all iPhone users.
For iOS 9.3.4 users, the iPhone 5 iOS 9.3.5 update delivers that important security patch. If you’re coming from something older than iOS 9.3.4, it’s a much larger update thanks to the changes on board Apple’s various iOS 9.3 upgrades.
This guide rounds up the most important things to know, right now, about the iPhone 5 iOS 9.3.5 update as we head toward the release of Apple’s next iOS update, presumably iOS 10.
It offers updated impressions of the iPhone 5 iOS 9.3.5 update’s performance, a look at iOS 9.3.5 problems on the iPhone 5, fixes for those problems, some information about the iOS 9.3.3 jailbreak, and a whole lot more.
We’ll continue to update this as we move away from the release date so check back for key updates down the road.
iOS 9.3.5 on iPhone 5: Impressions & Performance
We've been using the iPhone 5 iOS 9.3.5 update for about two weeks now and we've been monitoring several key areas: Battery life, UI speed, connectivity, app performance, and bugs. Before we get into those, a quick note about the installation process. If you haven't installed iOS 9.3.5 yet and you're coming from iOS 9.3.4, iOS 9.3.5 is a tiny update and it should only take you a few minutes to install. It took us about five minutes over a high-speed Wi-Fi network. We haven't heard about any widespread installation problems. If you're coming from something older than iOS 9.3.4, you'll want to allot more time to get the process done. The update brings features and fixes from previous updates with it. Our iPhone 5 iOS 9.3.5 update has been treating us well. We haven't experienced any weird drain and the phone is performing at a pretty high level for a phone that is going on four years old. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and LTE (AT&T) are behaving themselves. We've tested the software and device with numerous routers, ISPs and Bluetooth devices and haven't run into any serious trouble. At least not yet. We still haven't encountered any experience-breaking bugs or app problems and the UI speed is about as fast as it was with the iOS 9.3.4 update on board. We do continue to see lag when opening certain apps and the Control Center but other functions, like typing on the keyboard, still feel fast and fluid. Apple's iPhone 5 iOS 9.3.5 update is worth a serious look due to the nature of the security patches on board. These are serious security flaws and most of you will want to download the iPhone 5's update today. Those of you coming from something older, particularly those of you coming from iOS 8 or iOS 7, might want to seek out a second or third opinion before updating to iOS 9.3.5. If you're feeling leery about the move, dig into additional feedback on YouTube and Apple's discussion forums.

I just received a notice to upgrade to 9.3.1 on my iPhone 5s. After installing the upgrade and restarting I was unable to log into iCloud to complete the setup. I was then unable to download my email. I was getting errors sending texts. I could not open text attachments. I could not open any websites with Safari. I could not download map updates to my aviation software. So 9.3.1 is not the solution to all the problems.
My question is why was a notification pushed to me if there were continuing issues?

Same problems here…cannot log into iCloud, send text messages, connect to the App Store, Safari is useless, etc. Time to downgrade.

If you call apple tell them about your problem they will either get you a new phone or fix it for free. If they do charge you simply tell them its their fault. I say this because its their update and they should take responsibility of the many people that are trying to fix their phones. This is very unprofessional. If anything you should be given a new phone by this company. If you experience any more problems i would switch brands or contact apple support immediately. I have an iphone and i used to experience many problems i then contacted them and they fixed it for me with no charge.

I’m getting very irritated with the frequent pop ups to update “now, later or tonight”, but no option to decline and end the annoying pop ups!! I’ve never been happy with any previous updates that have been pushed on me either!
Am really fed up with Apple!!

You can just go to Settings-General-Storage-ManageStorage and then delete the new update therefore it won’t pop up as frequently.

Anyone having problems with Bluetooth after the lastest 9.3.1 update? I am connected to the car phone/bluetooth. Music will play fine until I make a phone call and hangup. When music starts up again, it fades in and out. The only solution I have found is to disconnect Bluetooth and reconnect. Works until another call comes in or goes out.
Kelley
04/14/2016 at 7:43 am
My bluetooth in my car is acting up since the update, but in a different manner. When I try to make a call on my bluetooth, the call is choppy, in and out the entire time. Can’t hear anything the person is saying. I can hear it even before the call connects (when the phone is still ringing) so I know it’s not the connection to the caller. I haven’t tried to listen to any music, but the voicemail playback appears to be fine. Very frustrated as I have babies in my car and can’t be using my hands when making calls.
Bob
05/20/2016 at 6:36 am
Glenda,
Same problem here. Play music if I try to skip a song it disconnects and will no play music again until I turn the phone off! Apple, I have had enough of this. Every time I download a patch it messes up something else. Like most people I’m switching to a Samsung. Hopefully your declining sales will eventually bring your company to the realization that you can’t live off your previous accomplishments forever.

Since I updated to 9.3.1, most of my music was deleted (all but 14 songs I recently purchased) and I can’t get the songs on our computer to sync on to my phone. I also have had difficulties with the Bluetooth in my car. It is very frustrating, especially after spending hours trying to reload music with no success (I even tried resetting my phone).

After the 9.3.1 update I can’t get data any more on my iphone 5s. Neither LTE or 4G. Called the provider (t-mobile) and they said I need to restore my phone or wait until the next update. Wow. 9.3 is not an upgrade, it’s a downgrade.

My iphone 5s , has become unresponsive after upgrade,, I reset to new device. But doesn’t help after starting in few seconds screen start flickering and cant do anything even login. I tried that auto brightness to OFF. Sometimes keeping flashlight ON for long time helps. Appears like it discharge the screen. It worked for sometime but than back to same, and now flickering is so much that screen cant sense fingers anymore. I am sure its because of latest software upgrade. I can see there is a bright light spot when switching off the phone, I notice it appears at the bottom center and phone heat up behind the bright zone. Had to keep phone OFF for hours to use the phone to use it for every time.

My iPhone 5 updated to 9.3.2 last night despite my continued avoidance of responding to the update prompt. Grrrr. NOW MY IPHONE WON’T CHARGE!!! I’ve tried multiple chargers and multiple cords. The phone doesn’t acknowledge that it’s plugged in. No lightning bolt charging symbol. And the battery continues to drain. When it drained to 9%, I shut it down. Home screen would flicker some when attempting to launch an app, but no launch. Anyone else experience this?

The morons at Apple have screwed the pooch again. After being nagged constantly I finally attempted the “upgrade” to my ipone 5. Of course OS 9.3.2 jacked my phone good. I walked into an Apple store to get it fixed and the so called “genus” said that they don’t do software fixes anymore. WTF? The “genus” advised me to basically slick my phone after backing it up. Went home, connected to Wi-FI and the backup didn’t work. Made an appointment at the Apple store and they better fix the damn thing or I’ll shove it up some genus’s arse and go buy a Android.

5c upgrade to 9.3.2 has caused all incoming notifications to be silenced -have toggled all settings but nothing works.
The phone should give a revert or downgrade option by defacto as pretty much all the ios updates have issues these days.

On my friends iphone 5 it automatically updated to 9.3.2 while it was charging and when she picked everything on the phone was gone, EVERYTHING, pictures, contact, apps, notes and etc. It also cleared her Icloud mail, and everything that was stored in icloud got deleted too. She contacted apple but they didn´t do anything. :(

I was given a new iphone5 in substitution of my old one (battery swollen), the phone came with 9.3.1, after I installed the back up (which worked), I was prompted to upgrade to 9.3.2. The upgrade was successful but I get:
– Little to no service at all. Dropped calls, call going straight to voicemail and notifications of voicemails hours after the call was received.
– Screen flashes, phone restarts on its own.
– Home screen slider does not slide, phone completely locked up (even if it’s ringing I only see a black screen)
– Apps that hang.
– Wifi connection drops during FaceTime video calls. (this happens on ipad mini too, also on 9.3.2). Inability to reconnect to wifi after this happens, on force restart cures it.

Does anyone know if there will be any problems going from iOS 9.1 straight to iOS 9.3.2 on an iPhone 5? I’ve had the phone a few years now and it seems to be encountering a few problems. Not sure whether that’s from iOS 9.1 or an ageing phone, but I don’t want to go straight to iOS 9.3.2 if it is going to cause more problems.
