Apple recently released an iPhone 5s iOS 9.2.1 update bringing some changes to the former flagship. Today, we want to take a look at the most important things to know about the iPhone 5s iOS 9.2.1 release including tips, details about the downgrade and some information about its possible successor.
Apple confirmed the iPhone 5 iOS 9.2.1 update last year with a release into beta for developers and those in the free Beta Software Program. The beta confirmed the update but it didn’t confirm a public release date.
In mid-January, Apple took the iOS 9.2.1 update out of beta and delivered it to iOS 9 users around the world. If you own an iPhone 5s, you can download iOS 9.2.1 right now through your Settings or through iTunes.
The iPhone 5s iOS 9.2.1 update is here and as expected, it’s a small incremental update that brings performance improvements, bug fixes and security patches to the iPhone. It’s a small update but it’s an important one and iPhone 5s users need to have it on their radar.
Today, we want to take you some vital information about the iPhone 5s iOS 9.2.1 update including details about problems, jailbreak, and overall performance.
These are the details to keep in mind as we push away from the iOS 9.2.1 release date towards the arrival of Apple’s iOS 9.3 release.
Let's start with the iPhone 5s iOS 9.2.1 update's performance in two plus weeks since its release date. (iOS 9.2.1 came out on January 19th.)
During those two weeks, we were able to get about seven days of testing in, not the whole two weeks. This is why we didn't include it in our full review of iOS 9.2.1.
In those seven days we failed to discover any major problems with the software.
Battery life is still holding up. We haven't run into any odd battery drain when in use or when the phone is in standby.
We've tested the iPhone 5s and its iOS 9.2.1 update on a couple of different routers and Wi-Fi connectivity is still stable and normal. We've also been able to successfully pair it with a few Bluetooth devices (speakers and headphones).
Apps still appear to be functioning normally and we haven't run into any experience-breaking issues. Control Center is fast, so is Notification Center and we haven't noticed any sluggishness or locking up with the new update on board.
Other iPhone 5s users are seeing the same. Some are even reporting improvements to the device's performance after installing iOS 9.2.1. Our experience is about the same as it was on iOS 9.2.
Others are reporting issues with lag and slowdown and there are still those that swear by Apple's iOS 8.4.1 update.
Here's the skinny after a week: If you're already on iOS 9, you should be fine installing iOS 9.2.1. If you're on an older update like iOS 8, you'll want to tread carefully.
At this point, it might even be worth waiting for the iOS 9.3 update to arrive.

Sorry. I know the “thing” that posted the scam ad will never even see (or even be able to comprehend) my a**hole post. A moment of weakness on my part.
Since doing the update on my iPhone 5s I’ve had nothing but problems with staying connected to my wifi and once it’s lost connection can not find it or any… I’m also not receiving calls, I get a message to say I missed a call but phones not ringing…
What about the iOS 9.2.1 and the iPhone 5? I’ve had NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS since downloading iOS 9 months ago, along with all the patches: phone not ringing, texts not going out/coming in, can’t import or export my photos, can’t takes photos. Phone freezes, screen goes blank in the middle of activities. Apple is NO HELP AT ALL AND I HATE THEM!! Ever since Steve Jobs died, their products have been JUNK!!
Watching this video, 9.2.1, it looks to me that at best is nearly as fast as 8.4.1, on the iPhone 5S. The results, shown at the end seem to verify that. My other comment would be it seems that the PacMan bit showed nothing relevant and went on too long. Seemed like the operator got caught up in play.

I have no Wifi at all after rebooting everything I can reboot, all after this update 9.2.1). Apple TV doesn’t work, meaning Netflix doesn’t work, and now I have to wait for spring for a fix –hopefully. No wifi on the iPad or iPhone! Meanwhile I’m paying for wireless I can’t use, closing pop ups about how I should come g to wireless. Ridiculous.
Upgraded to 9.1.2 as soon as it was available. Since then having problems staying connected to my own wifi. At someone else’s house, it drops wifi every 10 minutes, then picks up 3or 4 signals in area except the wifi in the home I’m visiting. Never been an issue before. Also even though I use my phone total of 4 hrs. All day, my battery is really draining. Have recharge 2-3 times a day.
