Apple
4 Reasons Not to Install iOS 9.3.5 & 5 Reasons You Should
Apple’s iOS 9.3.5 update for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch is a tiny update that focuses on one thing in particular. And while some of you will want to install the iOS 9.3.5 upgrade today, others will be better off waiting.
In March, Apple rolled a major iOS 9.3 update bringing new features, fixes and problems to iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users.
These problems forced Apple to roll out an immediate iOS 9.3.1 update though the update only tackled one issue. Lingering problems have pushed Apple to release four more iOS 9.3 updates including iOS 9.3.2, iOS 9.3.3, iOS 9.3.4, and its brand new iOS 9.3.5 update.
The iOS 9.3.5 release is now available. It arrived three weeks after the arrival of iOS 9.3.4 and just a few short days before the arrival of iOS 10.
Update: For reasons to and not to install Apple’s new iOS 10 update, head here.
iOS 9.3.5 is a small update for iOS 9.3.4 users but it’ll be a little bit bigger for those of you stuck on an older version of iOS 9. Remember, if you haven’t installed iOS 9.3/iOS 9.3.1/iOS 9.3.2/iOS 9.3.3/iOS 9.3.4 yet, you’ll get their features and fixes with iOS 9.3.5. They’re baked in.
While there are reasons to consider installing the iOS 9.3.5 update right now (including a way to get circular folders), there are also some reasons to consider waiting. Some of you might want to hold off for a few more days at least.
This guide will walk you through all of these reasons and help you make a decision about the iOS 9.3.5 update today.
Install iOS 9.3.5 If You Want to Improve Your Security
Apple recommends iOS 9.3.5 for all iPhone and iPad users. Here's why. The iOS 9.3.5 update delivers three security patches that take care of serious security problems that expose calls, contacts, texts, and emails. If you value your privacy, and you should, it would be a good idea to move to the iOS 9.3.5 update right now. If you failed to make the move to Apple's iOS 9.3.3 or iOS 9.3.4 update, you'll also get their security patches with iOS 9.3.5. iOS 9.3.4 patches up an exploit discovered by iOS jailbreak developers. The iOS 9.3.3 update brings several patches for potential security risks and these are going to be important if you store sensitive data on your device. Apple's website lists 26 patches for potential security issues. This is a huge number, particularly for an update of this size. If you skipped the iOS 9.3.2 update, iOS 9.3.1 update or iOS 9.3 update, you'll get a lot more than the patches listed above. If you value your security and privacy, you'll want to think about installing the iOS 9.3.5 update on your device(s) today.

Doh !
Should have read this prior to clicking the update button. Everything seems ok so far apart from the Live Health App …. I’ve been monitoring my walking for the past 14 months using this and slowly upping my distances. I was on the verge of hitting 400,00 steps so far this month, but after the update, and although the daily totals are there, the dashboard is now show my monthly total as 14,000 !! Also, instead of a curved line being displayed, there’s now a bar chart and it’s really nowhere near as good.
I may wait a few days to see if it sorts itself out/Apple do a fix … But if not, I’m scrapping it and buying a wrist fitness band !

According to Apple’s error code support document, error 56 is a hardware issue. The document recommends installing the latest version of iTunes, checking for issues with third-party security software, and attempting a restore twice.

As there appear to be no consistent problems with the iOS 9.3.1 update ie almost everyone has a different problem, you have to ask yourself where are the complaints from the other users? Given that there are 44,000,000 users in the US alone how come the few users in this forum are the only ones complaining? My guess is the same as always the faults are the result of human error. In other words you did something wrong.
You failed to read about the update before installing it, your internet connection was poor or faulty, you did not check your preferences, you have not tried to fix the problem by restoring the iPhone on iTunes, if your password doesn’t work then it’s the wrong account, if a buttton doesn’t work it’s probably a preference setting, etc, etc.
The iPhone is a complex, sophisticated gadget which requires knowledge and research to use properly. If you just expect it to work no matter what you do or don’t do then by all means swap to an android but have a little look first at the problems experiences by android users and you will find similar problems or worse. Perhaps a smart phone is not your answer.
If you truely want to solve your problems post them in detail on a good forum and let the contributors help you to solve them instead of just complaining.
Both my wife and I have iPhone 5s running iOS 9.3.1 with no problems.

Exactly! iOS is the platform for people who just need a phone that works. Android is for the “hackers” (DIYies, techies, etc) who have another device and are able to repair their phone immediately and provide their own tech support to themselves.

What version of iTunes are you running? 12.3.3.17 is the current version. Check for Updates at the App Store. If you are not running this version you may need to upgrade your Operating System. What OS are you running on your computer?
sebastian
05/17/2016 at 5:15 am
1. You’re running an older version of OSX 10.7.5 or earlier or you’re running windows vista or earlier.
Newer versions of itunes is obly compatible with windows 7 or later or every OSX after 10.7.5

I won’t update because I don’t want my phone to become slower. By experience an update to iOS has always made my iPhone slower. I remember where iOS 4 came out which made my iPhone 3GS so slow it became unusable. My iPhone 6 became also much slower when updating from iOS 8 to 9. My iPhone 6 plus also became noticeably slower after updating to iOS 8.3 when Apple music was released. I will therefore not update my iPhone 6s unless it very clearly makes the phone faster. New features be damned.

My screen cracked about a week ago. I took my phone to be fixed and not only did they fix my screen, but they changed my home button for my iPhone 6s. I am truly upset that i cant use the Touch ID anymore, but it is even more upsetting that due to the fact the button was replaced, i cant update my phone! What is this!? I paid $700 for this phone and im not even happy with it anymore.

Chris
05/14/2016 at 4:39 am
Where did you get it replaced? If you had it done at an actual Apple Store and not some kiosk or 3rd party shit-show, they will always replace the Touch ID sensor along with every single component you see on the front side of the device. However, Apple does also correctly pair the new Touch ID sensor with the device, so all you have to do is enable Touch ID again in the settings, and it’ll work just fine.
If it was a third party place, well then you’re screwed and kinda deserve what happens for not getting quality work done on your $700. Think of it like a back-alley abortion with a rusty coat hanger.
Luke Wright
06/10/2016 at 10:45 am
iOS has a security feature that detects whether your Touch ID home button has been subjected to unauthorized repair by a non-Apple repair staff. If you’ve taken your iPhone 6s to a third party repair shop, this is what’s causing the problem. Further, the security feature mentioned above will not allow iPhones to update if it detects home button has been tampered with by, you guessed it, non-Apple repair staff.
Chantel
07/08/2016 at 3:37 pm
My reply is a bit after the fact, but I feel you should take it out with the 3rd party that fixed your phone. You paid for a replacement screen, not a new home button.
Gary Slocum (@Appalcarp)
03/24/2016 at 8:00 pm
Jennifer, if you used a third party and not Apple or an affiliate, that is the problem as many phones have been bricked because of this.

03/26/2016 at 6:52 am
I just installed 9.3 this morning, after my iPhone 6s nagging me to do this for the last few days.
Several problems ALREADY –
1) The camera has disappeared off my home screen, and I can’t find it??!!
2) My emails aren’t syncing and refreshing.
3) On Safari, all links seem to be disabled – e.g. if I Google something (as we all do about 10 times a day!),
the list of links will come up…. but if I try to click on any one of them, the screen freezes and no new page opens up.
OVERALL IMPRESSION?
– This is a sh*t update, because despite all of the cool new features Apple want us to have (and rave about),
they can’t expect us to be happy about losing some of the key functionality of our phones!!!
This stuff should be tested properly before they unleash it on us, and have thousands of inconvenienced & unhappy customers.
Anyone know when these glitches are likely to be fixed?
Frustrated & annoyed.
We miss you, Steve Jobs.

Apple has temporarily stopped offering the iOS 9.3 update for older devices like the iPad Air and earlier and the iPhone 5s and earlier due to installation issues some users have experienced. On older devices, iOS 9.3 requires users to input the Apple ID and password originally used to set up the device, which can lead to the device becoming stuck at the Activation Lock screen if the original account information can’t be recalled.
In a statement given to iMore, Apple says it is working on a fix and plans to issue a new version of iOS 9.3 in the next few days. Customers with an affected device who attempt to download iOS 9.3 during this time will not be able to install the update as Apple has stopped signing it.

HAHA //// the FIX fixes NOTHING … but thanks for playing.
CAUTION iPhone 5 users; I know my passwords original, old and new … so don’t believe the company BS that it is user error. My new iPad works just fine. iOS 9.3 is a way to “brick” the phone and force you to buy a new one. iOS 9.3.1 does not fix the issue. I’ve patiently waited for the fix; followed the process and my current iCloud PW does not allow me to connect to to Apple ID server and neither does my original PW nor my OLD PW. I’ll be a lifelong DROID customer and dump my iPad before I am forced to buy another iPhone because Apple forced a midnight iOS upgrade with bugs or a purpose.

I have a 6 s and when I talk hands free in the car it randomly switches from the car to the phone and then back to the hands free in the car. It sounds like a drop call, but it’s not. It’s dangerous. Acura says it’s the phone. Anyone else have this issue?
Jack L
04/06/2016 at 2:58 pm
Hey Laurie I have a 2009 Acura RDX and I’ve always had a problem with the hands feature that Acura has built in. Its not the iPhone because I’ve also had issues using hands free with Samsung Galaxy phones (dropped calls, not automatically switching to hands free when answering incoming calls or placing outgoing calls). It seems like everytime i want to place or receive a call i have to manually switch it to hands free. And in my experiences it seems to me that Acura’s Hands free works best with the most basic of phones rather than smartphones! Haha. Seriously, all calls automatically go to hands free everytime. But overall, I am very happy with my iPhone 6s. i’ve only had issues using hands free in the Acura. All other cars it works like a charm.

Apple should work on making the IOS stable and reliable on any newer or older platform, instead of adding useless bloatware such as the night mode function. Every update since IOS 7 has made my ipad 3 slower and more crash prone. It is inexcusable that Apple released IOS 9.3 and caused serious issues with Safari and in some cases bricked older units. The fix is an afterthought concerning an issue that should not have happened to begin with.

Appealing headline. So I read it. (Author gets paid)
Low impact, tho, for 5s users. Low impact for “what if” and “maybe” categories.

Every time Apple releases ” a new and
improved I O S Update fix, it is the same
old bullshit story: Apple takes = 1 step
forward, & naturally = 4 steps backwards !
Case in point: this wk after installing i o s
9.3.1, the very next day my Inbox, new
email notifications stopped working !!!
This is where, when you check your new
email, there is a ” blue dot circle ” indicating
that you have = new mail. Now that ” blue
dot circle ” has disappeared !!! Surprise,
surprise ! When I called Apple Tech
Support, they told me their default
technical answer for all problems :
make sure your phone has been backed
– up, then RESET ALL SETTINGS on
my phone, back to square 1 . Are you
f**kng me !!!
I will never update any latest I O S
update again = same old, same old !

BIG MISTAKE to upgrade to OS 9.3 Sorry that I hit “upgrade to OS 9.3” on the iPad2 Air. NOT just a “bug fix.” All documents created in Pages app wiped out. GONE. All docs in Pages app on iPhone 4S, OS 7 now unavailable! All due to OS 9.3 upgrade on iPad. When setting up OS 9.3, if one fails to give permission to access the iCloud for storage, docs created before the upgrade are unavailable. (With my setup, going to the iCloud would render other data on the MacBookPro OS 10.8.5 unavailable since I chose not to upgrade to El Capitan due to incompatability with editing apps like FCP 7).

Hello everyone,
I’ve been reading reviews about this iOS 9.3.1 update as I want to know if i will have any problems if I update. Seems like I shouldn’t update any sooner until the release of iOS 9.3.2. Anyways, I wanna ask if y’all know how to fix iPhone 5c which lost its sound because I’ve been trying almost all possible methods but it wouldn’t work and when I search the net, some websites said its because it needed to be updated to the newest iOS but looking at all the comments about iOS 9.3.1 I don’t think I should update right ? Please help if you know any solution. Thanks so much!

Whenever I see any update on any of my devices not just my iphone, I update then there and then. With all these hacks in the news I want my software to be up to date as quick and as often as possible. If not being able to use you phone for 3 minutes whilst it updates means your less likely to have you software hacked then I would do it every time. Never put it off – update your devices now!

iOS 9.3.2 made my Guinea Pig colony go all “QT” on me. One group is organizing a bank robbery and insist that I only call them by their code names like Mr Pink and Mr White and there’s rumors of a cop in the mix. And another group is quoting scripture from the book of Ezekiel, and everyone is saying the N word and some smart ass is dressed up as an Elvis impersonator Clarence and thinks he’s the only person in the universe to put Vincent & Vic Vega together. This update SUCKS. DID I SAY SUCKS!!!!!!! If you don’t get this crap fixed I’m going back to an android. This is ridiculous. My phone is less than 6 months old and had worked PERFECTLY FINE until this POS update that kept popping up to install. Worse thing ever. I have to report my phone numerous times a day. Wifi hardly ever picks up and always says no service. Then I have to reboot yet again to try and it get it pickup. Won’t pickup my wifi at work or home either 95% of the time until 5 – 7 tries or better sometimes. Hotspot isn’t working 99% of the time. Battery Life SUCKS now. I use to be able to go almost a day and a half without having to recharge. Now I have to recharge TWICE a day and I barely do anything on my phone!!! I have very few apps on it. I don’t game. I don’t watch movies. I don’t stay on the Internet and things that drain a battery. I use it for calls, text and email for work. I have over 40 gb out of 50 gb available from my cloud storage which shows I don’t keep or use much. I loved the iPhone 6 until this update. Hated the 5s but loved the 6. Now I hate it just that fast over this stupid update. Horrible and shame on the developers for putting out such a POS update. Take it back to what it was. I wasn’t having any problems with it. And apparently many others feel the same with the same issues. If you haven’t installed it DONT DO IT!!!! You will regret it!!!!
Jennifer
06/09/2016 at 7:41 pm
I also forgot to mention my phone service has gone to pot since update. Always drops calls where they never dropped before. My personal android phone shows 4g and this thing (iPhone 6) shows 1x if I’m lucky. Constantly drops calls or caller can’t hear me or sad I fade in and out even though I’m standing in the same spot where other phones and this one use to have 4G full service. Both using Verizon so it isn’t cell service issue. It’s the stupid update!!!! 😡😡😡

My iPhone 5S (Sprint) was running iOS 9.2.1 quite happily and I have been delaying the upgrade to 9.3 until somehow today the phone started updating as I exited a website. FORTUNATELY it downloaded and installed with no bad problems that I have found yet. Night Shift works great and everything else seems fine.
QUESTION: My venerable iPad-2 (WIFI only) keeps asking me to update. It is currently running on iOS 9.2.1 (13D15). I would love to just turn off the update reminders but Apple doesn’t let you do that. Has anyone else out there upgraded an iPad-2 to iOS 9.3.2 yet and if so, does the iPad-2 still work?

I installed 9.3.3 and now my phone is going crazy. The screen flickers, it dials when it wants to, apps open by themselves, it actually took a pic while resting on the desk. its driving me nuts.

I’ve made shw $64,000 so far this year working online and I’m a full time student. I’m using an online business opportunity I heard about and I’ve made such great money. It’s really user friendly and I’m just so happy that I found out about it. Heres what I’ve been doing,

When I turn on my music, it’s constantly interrupted by Siri w/o me having pressed home key. My music jumps all over the playlist or album randomly stops then starts again. Really irritating, I use my phone for music to workout to and have found this update to leave a lot to be desired!

My CVS app wouldn’t update because my iPhone 5, iOS 9.3.1, “wasn’t compatible”. I wrote to CVS and complained, but that might be considered another reason TO update.
As for me, iOS 9.3.2 caused a problem I didn’t like, so I went back and am now reluctant to upgrade again until iOS 10 comes out (soon, I think.) Since this “security risk” apparently is only on links in messages, don’t click on links in messages.

@JimDarling, et. al. – the vulnerability that was found, which iOS 9.3.5 fixes, is that a malicious actor could send a special SMS text to your device that does not require user interaction to execute on the device. The threat vector was obscure until the patch was released, but soon any ol’ script kiddie will have access to the vulnerability.
The “electronic arms dealer” used this vulnerability to sneak spyware onto subject’s phones. This does not mean that other hackers are unable to exploit the vulnerability. Nay, they now have a new way to sneak their own spyware onto your devices. So, this article’s recommendation is wayyyy off – this patch should be installed as soon as possible!

iOS 9.3.5 made my torch and camera’s flash unable to function. Kinda sucks actually when those two aren’t functioning even though I rarely use it; but useful in times where I needed the most.
But overall, it improves in terms of battery performance. Others…. I guess, not bad.

Same problem since the update. Apple support had me do everything from Setting Reset to a Complete Factory Reset to no avail. I know its a software bug, since it hapened after 9.3.5 and I have never dropped or spilt on my iPhone 6s plus. Another thing I notice is that when I turn ‘on’ flash light from the pull up menu, the flash area in the back start getting very hot.

You forgot: “Don’t install if you sync with iTunes 11.4 on a Mac running OS X 10.6.8” because iOS 9.3.5 breaks the compatibiliity with older iTunes.
In fact, the required version for iOS 9.3.5 is iTunes 12 that can be installed only on Macs running 10.8.5 and forth, but what happen if you have an older Mac?
That’s very weird! iOS 9.3.4 has had no problem at all syncing an iPhone (in my case, a 4s) with iTunes 11.4 on OS X 10.6.8 and Apple breaks the feature just like that with no warning.
So, my girlfriend has a MacBook Late 2007 running Mac OS X 10.6.8, iTunes 11.4 (the latter installable version) and an iPhone 4s 64GB with iOS 9.3.5 (probably the last version of iOS on an iPhone 4s) and she now can’t sync her stuff. And do yo want to know something else? iPhoto has no problem – it still syncs very well.

i have a iPad 2 with only ios 7.1.2, should i upgrade to ios 9.3.5 ?
I want to consider because of many Apps unable to download due to at least ios 8 and above.
But worry about the iPad 2 performance.
Did the iPad 2 will get slower or hang or lacking ?

I’m running 9.3.5 on my iPad Mini (original) and I have neither Night Shift nor Low Power Mode. These apparently are not strictly OS features, but OS features requiring a certain level of support from the hardware. Do you know what the minimums are to enable these features?
