According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple could bring satellite capabilities to the Apple Watch as soon as this year.

If this pans out, it would let users send text messages over satellite networks to emergency personnel. This would be huge for people who like to venture out into areas with bad or non-existence cellular service. We've also heard these features may come to the iPhone 14 series this fall.

Now keep in mind, we also heard this was being planned for the iPhone 13 series, but that rumored failed to pan out.

So while this is certainly exciting, there's no guarantee it happens in 2022. In fact, Gurman says it may get pushed to 2023.
