The new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are still water-resistant. So is the new iPhone X, which means any of the new 2017 iPhones you buy will survive brief exposure to water. The only new iPhone you buy this year that isn't water resistant is the iPhone SE.
Apple changed the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus to include a new glass back, which is also part of the all new iPhone X design. With the new looks and stainless steel band that runs around the edge, you still get a water-resistant design. This is an IP67 resistance, which means you can expose it to about three feet of water for 30 minutes. This isn't designed to go swimming with or take underwater selfies. It's designed to protect your iPhone from damage if you drop it into a puddle, pool, sink or other body of water. |

If the iphone is not waterproof, it should not be in the list of best waterproof phones. If I was simply looking to place any good phone in a waterproof case, I would search for waterproof cases.

This article is incorrect.
The iPhone is NOT waterproof,
The S7 is rated 1 meter for 30 minutes–not 5 feet,
The MOTO G is completely missing–one of the best waterproofs under $200.

I have the Samsung Galaxy s5. I have taken it swimming and have taken pictures and recorded videos of the kids swimming under water. I dropped it in our pool once in the deep end, which was about 6 feet. Still going strong after 2 years of having it! Makes it even better with the water proof lifeproof fre case

Ah… I feel sorry for those who just have a great moment when their phones water-proof. I’ve felt this years ago.

My wife had a Galaxy S5 and it somehow ended up in the toilet for just 15 mins. It never worked again and had to be replaced. So the claim of the Galaxy S5 being able to stand in water for 30 mins is a blatant lie

Had the Sony Xperia Z3, I do excavation. Had the phone fall into a water line ditch filled with water. Stayed there for over an hr since the line broke and trench kept caving in. Was able to recover it about an 1 and half later and after washing off the mud it still worked. Same issue with mY galaxy s5 and no issues except 5 was only under for about 15 minutes. Took s5 to Hawaii and used it under water the whole time snorkeling and didn’t have any issues just great pics.

Galaxy S8 deserves to be in the list as well. This list also has a lot of Waterproof phones which are still a good pick.

Great post. Galaxy S7 is indeed a great smartphone. Moreover, Sony is also manufacturing pretty good devices that are water resistant with IP68 certification but Sony smartphones are overpriced.
By the Way, Galaxy S7 is not an affordable smartphone.
