Nexus 5 Android 6.0.1 Update: 5 Things to Know in April
Google’s rolling out a brand new April Nexus 5 Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow build and today we want to take a look at what you need to know about that update, its performance and more at the four month mark.
In early December Google confirmed an Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update, the first update to its new Marshmallow operating system. The Android 6.0.1 update is more than just a list of bug fixes. It also brings enhancements and new features to the Nexus 5 and Google’s other Nexus devices.
The Nexus 5 Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update is an important one of the aging former flagship from 2013 as it fixes some of Marshmallow’s most annoying bugs and brings over 200 new emoji characters to the device’s keyboard.
As we push away from the Android 6.0.1 release date, we continue to see new details and new Android 6.0.1 builds emerge.
And as we make our way deeper into the year we continue to investigate the Android 6.0.1 update’s performance on the Nexus 5 and other Nexus smartphones and tablets.
Today we want to take an updated look at the Nexus 5 Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update and tell you about five things you should know at the four month mark. (Its been 131 days since Android 6.0.1’s initial release, if you want to be exact.)
This roundup covers Nexus 5 Android 6.0.1 problems and fixes, an updated look at the Nexus 5 Android 6.0.1 update’s performance, and some details about the latest Nexus 5’s Android 6.0.1 build.
April Nexus 5 Android 6.0.1Review
I've been using the Nexus 5 since the day it arrived in 2013 and the Nexus 5 Android 6.0.1 update since the day it arrived for my device in December. I've been digging into its performance for more than four months now and here's what I've found. Google's current version of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow (April security update) continues to deliver outstanding performance in key areas like battery life, UI speed, connectivity, and app performance. I've seen some complaints about Doze and battery life but I haven't see anything out of the ordinary during my time with stock Android 6.0.1. The Nexus 5's battery continues to hold a solid charge and that's big for a device that's going to turn three years old later this year. I've tested the device and its updates with three different routers and various Wi-Fi connections. I still haven't experienced any issues with range or speed. Bluetooth continues to excel and I've been able to pair it nicely with Bluetooth headsets and speakers. The Nexus 5 is still fast at the four month mark. I haven't seen any odd lag or random stuttering during my time with its new April security update. Animations and transitions are all fast and fluid and opening apps is quick and painless. Maybe the most important detail I can share is that I have yet to run into any experience-breaking problems with the April security update. Even the applications I use the most (Chrome, YouTube, Gmail) are performing at a high level. It doesn't feel much different than the last security update which is to say that I'm still very satisfied with the device's performance.

Ever since I updated my Nexus 5 to 6.0.1 I’m experiencing a problem with my Bluetooth showing on top of the list of the apps draining my battery. Even more than my Screen! Now I have to switch off Bluetooth when I am not using it, which is something I never had to do before. It’s quite annoying. I’ve had my Nexus 5 since the phone was launched two years ago.

How? I was using camera, clicked some pics , phone got hanged and power off automatically when i restarted it shown me 2% battery.i came back home when i put phone in charge in 10 min it shows me same % battery which was before switch off. Means 53%. I checked it many time. I am facing this problem from last 10 days. I am afraid to carry my phone as it can switch of any time and you are helpless untill u connect it with charger.Google Android teM , pls do something.

I have pretty much the same problem. Did you ever find anything about it? My battery usage graphs look like the grand canyon. Slow reduction then, all of a sudden, drop to zero when phone crashes. Hook it to a charger, restart it, and it jumps right back to the charge it had before the crash.

I forgot to mention. I carry one of those power bank charge devices so I can restart the phone even when I am away from home. Something like this: https://www.everbuying.net/product577886.html?currency=CAD&gclid=CJnDpMv91coCFZBcfgodxvkL6g

Nancy, no you can’t fully view groups in Contacts any longer. Lame? Absolutely! Some groups show “no contacts found” another shows 25 of the 138 I have in a particular group. I used the group function daily, multiple times for my business and truly need it back. Google doesn’t seem to care. Many have requested that Google fix this, but it’s fallen on deaf ears. The irony is someone got paid to take away a valuable feature!

When you connect the phone click the USB notification on your device and choose from the different options. By default it just charges.

Last week my nexus 5 did the newest update… Well today, my phone turned itself off and is not turning back on. Last week I noticed the battery life was going faster than normal. I tried everything possible to make sure my nexus retained battery life but nothing seemed to work. Pissed!

Same here, my phone shuts off at random, battery all of a sudden goes dead, wake it up and it shows no battery life left and then shuts off again. The battery graph shows a deep crater as it indicates it suddenly discharged. All since the 6.0.1 update. I want to go back and then never want to upgrade again!! How do you do this???

Will there be any more updates for the Nexus 5 after 6.0.1? I don’t think I will upgrade unless they clear up these issues

Every since the update, I’ve been having issues connecting to WiFi. Has anyone else had this problem? I can’t find a solution that works. Any feedback is great appreciated. Thanks!

Sound and battery have been affected on both my husbands and my nexus 5 due to very recent upgrade. On phone calls we can barely hear people speaking at the other end!!

Phone calls dropped, can’t hear someone on other side, garbled sounds only. On our Nexus 5 phones.
