With the Apple TV hooked up to your TV it is easy to connect your Mac to your TV, your iPhone to your TV or an iPad to it.
You can use AirPlay Mirroring to stream your screen to the Apple TV. This lets you sit on the couch with your iPhone or Mac and see your content on the big screen. You need to be on the same WIFi network and then you can choose AirPlay Mirroring on iPhone, iPad or Mac and then your screen will appear on the TV. On Mac there is a small AirPlay logo in the menu bar and on the iPhone the option is in the Control Center.

Didn’t like this article. From 19 things, 10+ were about the same…

I buy iTunes content on my iMac and then stream to the AppleTV via our ethernet router. I’ve never noticed any lag or need for buffering. However, if I’m just renting a movie, I’ll do it on the AppleTV using the same router. I do see buffering at that point, but I doubt that a bigger HDD is going to make any difference.
